The Hazard Communication Program ensures that employees are aware of the hazardous chemicals present in the workplace and provides them with information about the potential risks associated with exposure. The goal of the Program is to reduce and control the risks linked to the use of potentially hazardous chemicals, protecting Dartmouth employees, the surrounding community, and the environment.
The Program applies to all college faculty, staff, and student employees who work with chemicals in a non-laboratory setting (area) and may encounter hazardous chemicals as part of their work. The Program meets the intent of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200.
Individuals who work with chemicals in laboratories must follow the OSHA Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories (29 CFR 1910.1450), more commonly known as the Laboratory Standard.
The Hazard Communication Program must be readily available in all areas where potentially hazardous chemicals are used or stored. Additional copies are available upon request to EHS.
