A policy regarding the College's ownership and use of certain trade names and trademarks.
The College is the owner of certain trade names and trademarks. Trade names owned by the College include, but are not limited to:
The College actively protects its proprietary interests in its name and trademarks. Dartmouth has a licensing program which maintains, reviews, and may permit use of the College's trade names and trademarks.
The use of the Dartmouth name (or other trade names or trademarks of the College) is prohibited for the titles of publications, on manufactured articles (such as T-shirts or other articles of clothing) and products, in the names of student organizations, or in any other way, except by permission from the Office of the General Counsel or, in the case of student organizations, the Council on Student Organizations. Applications for any trade name or trademark use should be made to the licensing officer in the Office of the General Counsel. Questions as to whether a name, symbol or device constitutes a trade name or trademark owned by the College or whether a particular product may be licensed should be directed to the Office of the General Counsel at 646-2444.
Violation of this policy may subject an individual or organization to disciplinary and/or legal action. In addition, any goods upon which the College's trade names or trademarks appear without authorization are subject to confiscation and may be destroyed.
